What To Look For When Choosing An Acne Scar Treatment

Treating acne can be a frustrating battle. Afterwards, trying to get rid of the scars acne can sometimes leave behind can be even more frustrating and difficult. Scarring caused by acne can be unsightly and highly embarrassing. There are four different types of acne scarring; Ice Pick, Boxcar, Rolling, and Hypertrophic. Acne scar treatment can be confusing since there are so many varied options.

In treatment options, there is of course laser treatment. While it may be effective, it is rather costly and invasive. Laser treatment usually cost around $4,000-$5,000. Another, safer, option for treating acne scars is a chemical peel. Chemical peels are made to slightly take off the top layer of scarred skin. It is not the most effective way of treating scars, but it much more economical, and less harmful then lasers. A session for getting a peel cost from $150 to $500 depending on how strong of chemical peel is chosen. (Light, Medium, or Deep.) Keep in mind that through face peels, more than one session is required.

Steroid injections are another form of treating scars. Steroids are injected into the raised scar, which helps reduce the inflammatory response of the scar. This procedure works well with Hypertrophic scars. Injections usually run about $50 to $75. An addition injection about 6 months apart may also be needed. Augmentation, another treatment option, is where fat (or another filler-like material) is injected into the scar. This causes a more even look for a face. Augmentation can cost from $500 to $5,000. One of the most affordable options is Microdermabrasion. It is a superficial treatment meant for purely cosmetic results. It focuses in on improving the skin’s texture. It can be affordable as $50 (with multiple treatments required) and has fewer side effects.

Before and after acne scar treatment can differ. Though there is no fool-proof way to prevent acne scarring, there are some easy things to help. Develop an acne treatment routine. (Use a good cleanser, and an appropriate acne medication.) Sticking with the routine can prevent major acne breakouts, thus prevent acne scarring. Do not pick at pimples, or try to pop them. Let acne medication heal inflammations. The immediate process may seem slower, but it is much better than having to deal with a serious acne scar treatment.
