The Night Before Alcoholic Detox
John was an alcoholic, he had known this for quite some time now. It had taken him a long time to admit it to himself, and even longer to openly admit to another human being.
The night that John decided that he needed alcoholic detox, he was lying in a crumpled heap behind a bench in the local park. Two hours before he left a party that had lasted nearly 3 days. He wasn’t even drunk anymore. He just felt the effects of the long drinking session in his bones, his heart was racing as he lay down on the call wet grass, he was trying to hide as much from himself as from anyone who may pass by.
John visited his doctor later that same day. He broke down and asked for help. This was the beginning of a new start, it was the first time that John had openly admitted to being an alcoholic and to needing alcoholic detox.
Now, six months later, John has just finished his first 5 km run. He finished almost at the back of the pack but it was a personal achievement, and one he would never forget.
