Signet Rings For Men

Date: 21 Nov 2009 Comments: 0

Unusually for a type of jewelry, signet rings are mostly worn by men, occasionally by women and rarely by children. You'll find that most often they are made of 9 carat gold although you should be able to find an 18 carat example if you want that instead. Signet rings first came into use over 4000 years ago and their original purpose was a unique one.

The flat head on top of the ring was made so that it could be used as a stamp, making a unique emblem in hot clay or wax. In this way they were used to put a mark on important documents. Of course signet gold rings are no longer used for this purpose but they are still popular and you'll find a reasonable selection in most UK jewelers. If you decide to shop Online then you will find an even larger range available from which you are able to choose and you won't have to spend so much time searching for the ring you want.
