IT Band Problems
If you have just started running or if you have been running for a long time already doesn’t matter for ITB problems. ITB means Iliotibial band. This is a tissue running from the hip to a point directly beneath the knee joint. If you experience problems with ITB, you normally feel a diffuse pain in the knee region. This pain could also develop to a knife sharp pain directly on the outside of the knee.
To get rid of the iliotibial band syndrome there are several possibilities available. Cooling it down with ice can help, as can stretching.
I have suffered from this problem several years before I realized it had to do with to stiff muscles in the hip area. I started doing some stretching, bought a book about Yoga, which included several exercises for IT band problems. This solved the problem for me. I sincerely recommend stretching to get rid of this problem. For me it’s completely gone.
