Irish Forestry Safety
The forest is a beautiful place to roam around and many cities have forestry on the outskirts which people can use for recreation purposes. But, the forest is also a workplace and as a workplace it can be very dangerous. Logging operations account for a lot of deaths every year and serious logging is one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet. Irish forestry has many different jobs that are performed throughout the year. And each one of these jobs has a degree of danger attached to it. Even the person who plants trees is at risk of injury.
But it is only over the last few decades that the risk of injury in forestry has increased dramatically. One of the reasons that this so is through the introduction and use of machinery to do jobs that were once done by hand. One of the most common pieces of machinery that is used in the past few years, and one of the pieces that causes the most injuries, is the chainsaw. Before you can use a chainsaw in Irish forests, you must go through a training program that will teach you the basics of tree felling, how to maintain your chainsaw properly (which is very important to the safety of all concerned), the risks associated with the use of a chainsaw, and some very basic first aid techniques in case of an accident.
There are many different reasons why a person would use the chainsaw within the forest environment. It used to be that all felling was done, or almost all felling was done, with the use of a chainsaw. Nowadays, on large forestry operations especially, a commercial harvesting machine will be employed. This harvesting machine can process large numbers of trees in a much safer manner. Chainsaws are only used to cut a small amount of timber and in order to provide forest access in the form of forestry inspection paths.
