When a wine lover comes to Santa Ynez Valley, it is almost as if they have arrived in heaven. It is one of the most beautiful and fertile

wine-growing regions in California. Alexander Payne chose wisely when he selected Santa Ynez Valley as the backdrop for his 2004 film Sideways. The Oscar winning film showcases the beauty of the valley and, simultaneously, indoctrinates many in the ways of wine.

Santa Ynez Valley is home to many quaint little towns that foster a feeling of simplicity and a more relaxed way of living. An example of one of these towns would be the Danish-styled Solvang – which means “sunny fields” in Danish. And, of the many wineries near Solvang, there is one that is unique and well worth the search. The name of this winery is Sobriquet Winery.

Sobriquet Winery is known for smaller production of wines with unique varietal flavors. It offers great wines at a competitive price. Sobriquet Winery has an incredible selection of red wines. There is a 2008 Grenache that received the prestigious Bronze Medal at the San Francisco International Wine Competition. And the Pinot Noir also won the Bronze Medal at the competition and additionally received a 93-point rating from Wine Enthusiast.

The owner and wine maker of Sobriquet Winery, Chris Stanton, brings thirty years of wine experience to the table. After getting a degree in viticulture from University of California, Davis, he worked at Mayo Family Winery in Glen Ellen, Koehler in Los Olivos, and Blackjack Ranch in Solvang (among others). Sobriquet Winery, his own baby, gets a lot of attention. No wonder it has received such acclaim.

So, if you are looking for a nice Grenache or a good Pinot Noir for under 50 dollars, you certainly have found the winery. Sobriquet Winery is still relatively young - so get this wine while it is still affordable.
