How Do I Reduce Anxiety And Get My Life Back?

Date: 27 Jul 2010 Comments: 0

Anxiety affects us all at one time or another. Lots of teenagers have anxieties when they are young because of the huge amount of social pressure that is on them. Things like ensuring they have the right clothes, the right shoes and the right handbag makes them feel under quite a bit of pressure to perform and look good. And that's just the beginning. They have to please their parents, teachers, friends etc and it can all be very worrying.

Being a teenager is hard enough as it is. You have to keep up with all the fashion trends and make sure your hair is just so. You have to pay out on new looks every 5 minutes and if you have a bag that was "last season" then you are labeled for the rest of your school life. You have to make sure you perform well in exams so that you get into your college of choice, but you can't be seen to be swatting otherwise you'll be mocked. You have to please your parents and stick to their rules all the while trying to look good to your friends and be out all night. Teenagers have all of this to deal with all the while wondering what the hell is going on with their hormones and bodies. I'm not going to lie, being a teenager sucks. Its no wonder that there are so many out there that have anxiety issues. There is so much to worry about that it starts to get you down after a while.

So how do you reduce anxiety in a life like this and get over the worries of every day life? Well the first thing to remember is that by fitting in to the stereotype of jock/cheerleader/goth, you aren't being yourself and that is causing you anxiety. By being you, you can actually relieve yourself of lots of anxieties and start to feel better already. This may be enough for you and although you may be worried about getting picked on or laughed at, but don't worry it won't last. The other thing to take into consideration is that whatever you are thought of at school won't represent who you are when you grow up. Believe it or not as adults, we don't discriminate or pick on someone because they choose not to wear designer clothes. When you grow up people admire you for being a unique individual so that group you want to be in for the next 4 or 5 years won't even matter in 50 years time when you're looking back on your school years.
