A good futon mattress can be an excellent way to get both a couch and a bed in one. Since the futon can be converted, it can be put in any room and a person can use it whichever way they want. Recently, manufacturers have dramatically improved the futon mattress so that it is now much more comfortable to sleep on. The Japanese have been sleeping on their versions of the futon for years. However, in the U.S., people that use futons are mostly younger or kids in college or those that use it for their guest bedrooms.
If you take a good look at what’s out in the market, you will find a surprising number of options for those that want a better mattress. Some mattresses even come with box springs now so they resemble the bed mattress. Others are made with a lot more foam and cotton so that the mattress is thicker and more comfortable to sit on and sleep on. Every mattress fits a different purpose for the futon so one should know their goals before buying a mattress. If you want something that serves as more of a couch, avoid the box springs or the ones with too much foam as they will be harder to fold into a sofa. For those that want to sleep on the futon more than they want to sit on it, then look for a mattress that is thicker and has more support for the body.
