Dealing With Greasy Hair

Date: 28 Jul 2010 Comments: 0

As much as you wish you could avoid it, sometimes your hair becomes greasy at the worst possible moment. As you catch a glimpse of your oil-slicked head in the mirror on your way out the door, you find yourself wishing you had time to wash and dry it. If this happens to you often, it’s time to look for some options for dealing with greasy hair.

One important way to avoid greasy hair is by using the right products. If your hair tends to be oily, a clarifying shampoo can help wash away any residue that is stuck to your hair acting as a magnet and drawing oil to it. You should also skip heavy conditioners and deep conditioning treatments. Gels and serums that contain silicones can make hair look even greasier so try to replace those with lighter styling products.

Even with the best prevention, oily hair is still going to happen. This is especially true if you sweat a lot, go to the gym, or spend a lot of time outdoors. While washing your hair only takes a few minutes, it’s what comes after that is so time-consuming for most people: blow drying, straightening, styling, etc. When you don’t have time to wash your hair, you can try using a powder shampoo. These powders are designed to make your hair look cleaner without actually having to wash it. All you do is shake some powder toward your roots and comb it through to distribute it. The powder should absorb the grease and make your hair look cleaner.

There are so many different powders you can buy that it’s hard to know where to begin. You can even make your own by shaking some cornstarch onto your head. The main problem most people have with these products is that they can leave a white residue in your hair. People with dark hair in particular sometimes find these powders leaving behind a noticeable white cast. If your hair is dark, look for a product like Bumble and Bumble dry shampoo that is sold in darker colors like black to match the shade of your hair so it will blend easily.

Oily hair can make you look dirty and unkempt pretty quickly. With the right strategy and a few good hair products, you can avoid this look even on your sweatiest day. No one will know that you didn’t have time for a shower!
