The weakened economy has left families feeling like a vacation is something they have to take out of their budget but the good news is there are ways to get away from our busy lives without taking an expensive vacation.  Camping offers families an affordable alternative without hurting their budget too much.
Of course, the main expense for families that are new to camping is going to be acquiring the camping gear, which can be somewhat expensive but when you think about it in the long term you are making an investment on something you can use for years to come, unlike that hotel room, and there is a lot of camping gear that is good to have in an emergency like camping lanterns and camping stoves.

However, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money ask your friends and family if they have any camping gear you can borrow, it is very likely that you know at least someone who does. You first need to start with a shelter which usually is a tent.  Families will want a tent that offers the maximum amount of space as possible.  There are many cheap cabin tents that offer a lot of space and even multiple rooms, which you and your kids will appreciate.  You will also need bedding like sleeping bags and possibly an air mattress if sleeping on the ground isn’t very appealing to you.

Other things you will need are for cooking and eating your meals.  Also, make sure you have a first aid kit with you.  You never know what might happen especially when you are outdoors where there are many other things to worry about.  You will also want insect repellant, camping chairs and anything else that you need to feel like you are at home. While there isn’t too many positives that come during a weakened economy, if it gets you camping it will help you to draw closer to what really matters in our lives; our friends and our family.
