Make Money Where You Travel – Teach English Overseas

January 15th, 2010

A great way to see a country is to live and work there. Being able to join a different culture through working is an amazing way to fund your travels and interact with the locals. You will be able to immerse yourself in a different culture, all the while working at something that you are familiar with. Teaching English overseas is a great way to achieve this. It is fun, rewarding, and gives you great life experiences.

You will get to see smaller, more colourful towns than you would by just traveling through a country’s major cities. By spending a year or more in one country, you will learn so much about that culture. You will get to experience their culture like a local. You will live where they live, shop and eat like they do. What better way to explore a culture is there?

On school breaks, like their summer break, you will be able to take off and explore the country and surrounding area in depth. While living and working abroad, you will be making good money that will fund any future travels, or will help you save up for your future back home. A lot of countries will pay for your room and board, which means that almost all your money goes into your savings.

The teaching requirements for teaching overseas are not that involved. Most countries require you to have a degree but it can be in any background. The other necessary requirement is to complete a TEFL course which will certify you to teach abroad. For many TEFL courses, there are no prerequisites. You must be over the age of 20 for most of them, although some offer courses to people as young as 16. Most of the courses are 100 hours broken into about 20 units. Many courses are offered online.

Cheap Ski Resort Packages

November 9th, 2009

There are certain guidelines that you can follow to find the best cheap ski resort packages around. One of the key tips is to avoid resorts on the mountain. If you can afford it, these packages are incredibly convenient. You get up in the morning, go downstairs for breakfast, and hit the slope. No waiting for shuttle buses or packing your skis on top of the car and heading for the slopes.

No – you’re right there. But you end up paying for the convenience – sometimes as much as 30 or 40% more than you would at a comparably equipped resort away from the mountain. Skiing is an expensive sport anyway, so for a lot of people the extra expense is not really a problem. But, if you’re on a budget and looking to save a bit, avoid the “on the mountain” ski resorts.

Places for a Vacation

I’ve done more than a little bit of traveling in my admittedly short life and one thing that I’ve noticed, that so far has held true under scrutiny, is that exotic vacations around the world have very little to do with landscape or climate. If you’re looking for a climate you’ve never visited before then you could probably find it in California and although it may be fairly impressive it will never be “exotic.” The same holds true for landscapes (California is a big state) but the one thing that will ALWAYS make a new location scream the word “exotic” at you from the hill tops is culture. A new culture that you’ve never had the pleasure of being part of will, one hundred percent of the time, stand out as more exotic to you than any landscape ever will. (And sadly, this is one thing you probably wont find in California.) Unless you’re a fish out of water, struggling to understand what’s going on around you, then you aren’t trying hard enough to find an exotic place to vacation.

Finding a moving company is about a stressful as it can get when you are moving.  This company and their employees will be in charge of moving everything you own from your old home to your new home.  You need to do everything you can to ensure that this company is worthy of not only your business but to be in charge of transporting all the personal belongings that are important to you. The best way for you to find a reliable moving company is to get references from friends or family.  They are never shy to tell you how they feel about something and in this case that is what you want.  Get a list of moving companies from everyone you know and try and ask them a few questions about their experience.  Is there anything in their mind, good, bad or indifferent that stood out to them? More importantly, would they use them again?   This isn’t a time to pick a company because they have a big catchy name or gave you the lowest quote.

Towing Your Folding Camper

Folding camper trailers are fairly light and have a low profile so they are much easier to tow behind your car. This low profile also helps with fuel consumption because there is less air resistance and drag. Over the course of a year of travelling this can represent considerable savings. Even a small car can tow a trailer with relative ease, so you don’t have to go out and buy a larger vehicle if you own one. This is without doubt the major selling point of a folding camper over caravans and motorhomes.

Their smaller size means you can store them more easily, and they will not take up all the room on your driveway, which big caravans tend to do. The small size also helps with reversing as you have good visibility to the rear. On camp sites this can be a big help when positioning the camper between other trailers.

Historical Boston

Ever heard of the Boston Tea Party? That was the one where a bunch of revolutionaries dressed up as indians and threw a boat load (literally) of British tea in the harbor. How about Paul Revere? Midnight ride? One if by land, two if by sea? Ringing any bells? He rode through the town warning people the British were coming before telling a few patriots to hang two lanterns in the steeple of the Old North Church. Any idea what the oldest continually operating restaurant in America is? I’ll give you a hint: It’s called the Union Oyster house and was opened in 1826 in, you guessed it, Boston! Let me just say, there are PLENTY of things to see in Boston. You could bore a group of 3rd graders to tears walking the city and showing them places of historical significance for days on end. Or, better yet, you could skip the 3rd graders and just go check things out for yourself. You have my personal guarantee that there will be no shortage of interesting things you are definitely going to want to check out before you’re forced to leave town much earlier than you would have liked.

Teaching English Abroad : A Great Way To Travel

September 26th, 2009

Teaching English is a popular way to travel not just for youths but for more experienced travelers as well. Opportunities exist in a large number of countries across the globe and remain fairly accessible to all native English speakers with a little bit of brains and willingness to stand in front of a group to make a lot of drawings, funny faces and gestures! It is not necessary to have prior experience or a bachelor’s degree in several countries (it will most likely be in Japan though). A TESOL certification will put you ahead of the pack and provide better working conditions and should be seriously considered if you want to spend time overseas to teach English. Incentive Programs Will Breed Better Customer Service

September 6th, 2009

One great management trick that we all know in the customer service industry is the incentive program. When your employees aren’t just working for the company but are instead working for themselves you will see a drastic improvement in their customer service skills. For instance, my hotel is trying to increase the daily rates without actually increasing them. They want to make it look like their rates are higher than they are by getting the guests to prepurchase breakfast at check in.

This would be a foolish endevour without an incentive program for the employees because no employee is going to try to convince a customer to increase their rate without having something to gain from it. So the management has instituted an incentive that gives the employee five dollars for every rate increase they make. Management may not be making money off of their inflation but they will surely see the rate go up and that will make them look better to their superiors.

Plenty of Food Around Your Varadero Hotel

September 1st, 2009

Varadero hotel tourists often find themselves hungry while site-seeing, but they do not have to look very hard to find something everyone can agree on. In Varadero, there are open-air markets and fast food. You can find pollo frita, hamburguesas con queso, sandwiches, and a few pizzarias. Sit-down restaurants are open for lunch and dinner. Chicken, pork and fish are the most common foods, but beef is not hard to find. Menus are posted outside so diners decide what they want before going in. Cuba is known for the Mojito. As in the movies, the Mojito is made with crushed mint, lime juice, and white rum. Another drink is the Cuba Libre, a combination of rum, coke, and lime. Cubans drink a lot of coffee. Café Espresso is strong, Café con Leche has warm milk in it, and Café Americano has a milder flavor. Visitors to Varadero hotels can drink the water but bottled water is recommended and is available in Varadero hotels.
